Please note that the CitizenLab Academy is a virtual community of practice. This means we’ll share a passion for digital engagement and focus on sharing information and experiences, but we’ll also be learning from each other. So don’t hesitate to give us feedback and ideas throughout the course, or through the brief wrap-up survey at the end of the course so we can continue to improve our offerings.

This online course is split into 4 course blocks:

The 1st course block is all about theory and getting you acquainted with the basics of community engagement.
The following 3 course blocks focus on practice and will hand you the tools, tips, tricks, and templates you need for process design, communication, and analysis.

The basics of digital community engagement

In this introductory course block you’ll be introduced to the basic theoretical concepts of digital community engagement. What is digital community engagement? What are the basic principles and what are the success factors? What are good models to start from? And how do you prepare your organization for qualitative processes?

Designing your community project

This course block is about goal-setting and mapping the steps you need to take to reach that goal. We’ll show you how to pick a community project focus and prepare it for launch. Learn the importance of splitting your process up into different phases and get insights into how to pick the right participation method.

Communicating your engagement projects

In this course block we’ll equip you with the tools and tips you need to reach out to your community and your key stakeholders. Effective communication is about clear messaging, repetition, and activation. We’ll also equip you with the practical tools you need to communicate about your projects in every phase of the process.

Analyzing the input gathered

Now that your projects are active or finished, it’s time to analyze and moderate the feedback and input that came in. In this course block we’ll focus on feedback and moderation tips, and explore how to analyze and measure the impact of your project. Did you reach your objectives?
